TAP DANCE
Tap dance is an American art form, born of the fusion of cultures on American soil. Influenced by African rhythms, Irish stepping, and English clogging, it developed in the late 19th century and by the early 1900s was firmly established in the vaudeville of America and in the music halls of Britain. Its popularity spread even more widely in the 1930s when it became a significant component of musical films.
En Pointe offers The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (I.S.T.D) Tap exams which are designed to provide a sense of achievement for children and young adults who dance for fun as well as those wishing to progress to a career in the dance industry.
En Pointe also offers Beginner and Intermediate Adult Tap - Beginners tap is for adults who have little or no experience with tap. We will learn the basics and fundamentals of tap dance at a slow pace whilst having fun and learning a new skill. Whereas the Intermediate class is for people who have previous experience with tap dance and are confident tappers, this class is equivalent to Grade 4/5 and above. Tap dance may look complicated but when broken down and taught correctly it can be easily mastered!
